Reception

Within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Ormskirk Church of England Primary School and Nursery, we strive to ensure the development of ‘sound foundations’ in the early years.  Following on from our Nursery, children will transition into Reception.

We have a passion for igniting curiosity and enthusiasm for learning as outlined in the EYFS statutory guidance.  We provide a nurturing, caring and fun environment for your child to develop.

We work in partnership with parents in order to provide the most effective learning opportunities for your unique child.  We aim to provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment where positive relationships are key.  We continually consider equal opportunities for all of our children and families.

The EYFS is broken down into 7 areas of learning and the staff plan opportunities through a combination of ‘in the moment’ planning, continuous provision, child led, child led supported and adult led activities. The areas of learning are as follows:

Prime Areas (from birth to 3 years old)

  • Communication and language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Specific Areas (in addition to the prime areas for children aged 3–5 years old)

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

How is our setting organised?

Reception has 2 classes which are located in a large area with lots of shared spaces both in and outside.

Key Staff:

CLASS RC           Miss Cocks – Class Teacher and EYFS Leader

                            Mrs Monks – Class Teacher

Mrs Brady - Early Years Practitioner

CLASS RR          Mrs Reeves - Class Teacher and joint Reception Leader

                           Mrs Bullock - Teaching Assistant

Miss Neill – Apprentice In EYFS

Across all phases of our EYFS setting, the key workers assess, plan and review your child’s progress on a daily basis to ensure that individual needs are catered for and each child’s learning and development is personalised and next steps identified. Frequent opportunities for the sharing of this information with families is available through various methods, i.e. daily chats; parents evenings and the use of Earwig.

Within EYFS, we aim to build sound foundations for all of our children.  We have a responsive curriculum which supports the characteristics of effective learning, giving opportunities for children to develop a sense of awe and wonder, by building on children’s learning and interests.  We want our children to be inspired, aim high, achieve and shine as unique individuals.
